The Fort Project

The Fort is one of the most unique working class neighborhoods in America, being a combination of fishing fleet, industry, residents, beach, offices, brewery and stunning ocean views  all within less than a quarter mile radius on a narrow peninsula. It is called the Fort because the hill portion served as a Fort during the revolution and up through 1812 .  By 1850s it was being settled by predominantly Irish and in the 1920s it was resettled by the Sicilian  fishermen and their families.  It is a very real and integrated Place.  Currently under threat of gentrification and a  Proposed Marriott hotel  / retail redevelopment through  a rezoning proposed by a new Mayor.

It  clearly shows the type of Community that once was the predominant  way of life here and should be better valued.
