Down Town
Down Town
This set of photographs of the Down Town of Gloucester 2001-2008 is taken from the 150 images called: At the Cross roads. I’ve tried to capture a bit of what is left of the feel of old Gloucester. What happens when a vital fishing port is restricted from fishing by federal mandates for ten years while fish stocks rebuild? A town suffers an economic downturn and its infrastructure crumbles and suddenly it has huge condo investment potential because the smell of fish gurry is gone. This city retained the character and spirit of place far longer than nearby cities on the mainland. Progress is a strange term. This documents a transitional moment so that future generations will know what was once here, as well as the types of people that were displaced by the rising costs of gentrification.
